The "Company"

Jalena has a passion for the performing arts, and has been involved in theater since she was a toddler. Some of her favorite roles include the title role in "Monkey King" at Childrens Fairyland, Prospero in "The Tempest," and Tiny Tomo in "Noh Christmas Carol." She is currently a member of Destiny Arts Youth Performance Company, which performs original hip-hop theater productions around the Bay Area. In her free time Jalena loves to dance, write, and enter contests.

She was one of ten kids nationally selected to be a youth reporter at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. She also won the Growing up Asian In America essay contest, the Reading Rainbow book illustration contest and twice won the Alameda county recycled art contest. Jalena is currently a student in Berkeley High’s International Baccalaureate program.

She was a student ambassador with People to People International traveling to both Washington DC and Australia. As a student at Julia Morgan School for Girls she was selected to be a student blogger at the first ever Engage Her Conference where she interviewed Gloria Steinem, Dolores Huerta, and Aileen Hernandez. Jalena hopes to combine her interests in social justice and theater by learning about the world around her and sharing her discoveries through the arts. She is very excited to be a part of the Eco-Company team.
